Free (and cheap) Yoga in Nashville
I lived in and was madly in love with Nashville. And yoga. More importantly, cheap yoga. I have decided to share the free (and cheap) yoga in Nashville that I found.
Confession: I am not an amazing yogi. I enjoy yoga for both the workout and the mindfulness of it, and I love yoga because anyone can do it. If a pose is too much for me, I can modify it. If I feel dizzy, I can go into child’s pose. It’s available to everyone. Because of this, anyone can attend any of these classes.
Must Knows
#1 Free Yoga at Nashville Public Libraries
A friend shared this secret with me. Different branches do different days, so check out their website to find yoga near you. As if libraries weren’t calm enough already.
#2 Yoga in the Park
Centennial Park at 5:30pm every Tuesday. These are led by Small World Yoga. $5 donation.
#3 Hot Yoga of East Nashville
This yoga studio has started doing Free Yoga Wednesdays. All classes. It’s incredible that they want yoga to be accessible to everyone. Per their website “donations are accepted for these classes, and 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Martha O’Bryan Center to support their education programs and their fight to end the cycle of poverty experienced by 1 in 5 people in Nashville today.”
#4 Community Yoga at Shakti
$10 classes offered throughout the week. Shakti got me hooked on hot yoga. I left my first class and felt like I could breathe better than I ever had in my life. My entire body felt phenomenal. Shakti has become my go-to place for yoga. Check their online schedule and you’ll find many community classes that are only 6 bucks. Shakti also offers 30 days for $49 if you’re a new student.
#5 Small World Yoga
Small World Yoga’s goal is to make yoga accessible to everyone. They offer many free or donation based community classes throughout Nashville on different days of the week.
#6 Rooftop Yoga at Acme
Sanctuary for Yoga leads yoga at 10am on select Sundays May-October. Drink specials offered post-yoga because working out is always made better by drinking afterwards. Register beforehand. This used to be free but is now $13.
#8 Yoga at the YMCA
If you have a friend who uses the Y, you can be a guest for free on your first visit. When the weather’s nice, they even do it on the rooftop at the downtown location.
A note about free (and cheap) yoga in Nashville: Some of these studios do donation based free classes. Please donate if you can and thank your instructors! And remember that just because it’s free doesn’t mean you should be any less respectful than you would be if you were paying $20 for a class.
Enjoy! If you know of free or cheap yoga that I have missed, please let me know! I want more people to be able to experience the joy of yoga.
